NATURAL RESOURCES
Shanwei city has abundant natural resources with a very promising
exploring potential. It covers 2.93% of the total land area of the
province. The city is one of the medium ones in the province in this
respect. Over 20 kinds of minerals have been prospected and located.
Those of rich storage are tine, tungsten, pyrite. kaoline and
high-quality mineral water, quartz sandstone, granit, etc. There is
an area of about 2,800 square kilometers that is fit for
afforestation and fruit-growing. In the area, there are 39 families,
115 species of xylophyta (woody plants). The common arbors are
ciders, pines, eucalytuses, mangroves, beefwood, Taiwan
acacia rachii, big leaf acacia, and ruber trees, etc. Fruit trees
are of 24 families, 42 species (100 kinds and varieties). Bananas,
lichees, pineapples, mandarines known as Lingnan best fruits, have
been grown on vast plantations. Chinese herbal medicinal materials
are found everywhere in the city, especially in mountainous and
terraced fields, amounting to 296 kinds.
