GEOGRAPHIC POSITION AND CLIMATE
Shanwei City lies in the south-east of Guangdong Province, on the
coast of South China Sea. Shantou is 160 kilometers to the east and
Shenzzhen is 120 kilometers to the west. Shanwei City is just
between the Zhujiang Delta and the eastern zone of Guangdong. The
city covers an aarea of 5271 square kilometers. Its land stretches
132 kilometers from east to west and 90 kilometers from north to
south. Mountainous, hilly and terraced lands intermingle in the
area, sloping from north to south. Running across the area are Luohe
River, Huangjiang River, Wukaan River and Chishi River, totalling
253 kilometers in length. the river reaches cover an area of 3,613.7
square kilometers.
The land is fertile and
rich in farm produce. Shanwei is bestowed with vast sea areas, the
undulating and tortous coast line constitutes numerous coves and
bays, the Red Bay and Jieshi. Bay being the major ones. The
coastline runs 302 kilometers with some 91 offshore isles and lots
of shoals and mudflat strips. Shanwei is situated to the south
of the Tropic of Cancer, in the subtropical monsoon zone; hence it
is favoured with an oceanic climate. It is rich in resources of
thermal, light and hydro power. The energy conversion of matter is
very rapid. The warm climate and abundant rainfall brings mild
winter and summer, with an average temperature of 22.1 degrees
Celsius and annual rainfall of 1,900 cc. So Shanwei is green and
thriving all year round.
